Taruka Conservation Plan in Chile

During 2017, Corporación Nacional Forestal (CONAF) was updating the National Conservation Plan for Taruka in Chile.

The first workshop occurred in Arica May 15th. Participants came from Government and Research Institutions. TARUKARI NGO was invited as an expert in Tarukas with the participation of Dr Benito González, Camila Castillo and André Vielma.

The previous Conservation Plan (from 2006) was assessed and updated using the new available information on tarukas ecology and their interaction with local communities. Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation were used in order to diagnose current status of Taruka in Chile. Three more workshops will occurred in the year, inviting different stakeholders and the local community.
